EUSA history

The European University Sports Association (EUSA) was founded in Vienna (AUT) in November 1999, as an organisation of the national university sports federations in Europe. From its initial 25 association members, EUSA has grown to 45 country members.

At the EUSA General Assembly held in Paris in 2000, the introduction of European Championships was approved. Competitions based on University teams would start in 2001 with the first Basketball EUC being organised in Aveiro (POR) and Volleyball in Belgrade (YUG).

Handball was added to the EUC programme in 2006 and the 1st European University Handball Championship was held in Besançon, France.
